Sanctity of Human Life
What is the “Sancitiy of Human Life”. This is a phrase that is used by those who have concerns about life-related issues. Things like abortion, birth control, capital punishment etc. This chapter we read this week talks about how the LDS Church when talking about the “sancitity of human life” usually talks about it in references to elective abortion which was interesting to me because for an assignment this week I was looking up legislative Bills in my state and most of the ones that effected families had to do with abortion.
There are so many other topics as well that could be addresses as sancitiy of life issues in the church some of them would be abuse, addiction, chastity, cohabitation, pornography, teen pregnancy and so many others.
Life is sacred. You might ask why, why is life sacred? We read that life is sacred because Jesus Christ is the ultimate source or fountain of life through his work in the creations and through his sacrifice in the Atonement. Human life is sacred because human bodies are temples and all flesh is in the Lord’s hands, our bodies belong to the Lord.”
We as humans should have a reverence for life not just with those around us or those that are similar to us but those all over the world. We should be concerned citizens to people everywhere of all faiths.
The LDS church offers some suggestions for defending the sancitity of life which are;
1. Maintain and promote chastity and fidelity
2. Help provide for unwed parents
3. Become better informed
4. Discuss the sancitiy of life accurately and appropriately
5. Recognize the consequences of abortion
6. Strengthen our testimonies of the sanctity of life
We can use things suggestions as a guide to keep our lives sacred but also to help others uphold the sanctity of life for whatever issues they may be concerned with.
